Lakers sign Hassan Whiteside

Lakers sign Demar Derozan

Lakers Draft Ben Simmons #1 or Brandon Ingram #2

The line up in that case would be

PG
D'angelo Russell/ Lou Williams
SG
Demar Derozan/ Jordan Clarkson
SF
Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram/ Anthony Brown
PF
Julius Randle/ Larry Nance Jr.
Hassan Whiteside/ Tarik Black

That would be great! With the Lakers having a projected $70 million to offer free agents this summer they could also sign Harrison Barnes too!

Demar Derozan $25 million max contract
Hassan Whiteside $21 million max contract
Harrison Barnes $21 million max contract

$25 million + $21 million + $21 million = $67 million out of $70 million of the Lakers cap space

Coping your line up and adding Harrison Barnes.
That would be a crazy good line up!

Um LakerFanLegend we don't have 70mil. We have around 65, but will still need to pay Clarkson putting it at 55 and then also pay the rookies we get in the draft so we would be around 50mil, enough for 2 max contracts, if people want to play for us.

Also just to add to what Lakerwaker is saying the starting salaries of Derozan, Barnes and Whiteside would be less than there average salaries. For your idea to work LakerFanLegend is for Whiteside to accept much less than the $21M average salary you have him at. This is just my personal opinion but Whiteside isn't worth max money. $13M to $14M average yes.

I see what you're saying Lakerwaker but $65 million is just a projected cap space for the Lakers and is not officially set as their cap space. That being the case, some have projected the cap space for the Lakers to be closer to $70 million. The exact same thing happened last year when most projected the total cap for the NBA for the 2015-2016 season would be $67 million, the NBA officially set it at $70 million. Of course $3 million higher than the salary cap was projected. My projection is just a shot at the high end. Also, in regards to the rookies (Hopefully Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram) signing contracts and fitting under the cap, if you look at my lineup I didn't place Nick Young in it. That being said, his almost $6 million wouldn't be on the books either. Now of course he couldn't just disappear (Even though I kind of wish he could) he could still possibly be in a draft day trade or sign and trade with the Raptors for Derozan or Warriors for Barnes. etc. That $6 million plus $3 million from the projected cap space of $70 million would be enough for the Lakers to sign their rookies. Lastly, in regards to Clarkson the Lakers can sign him last because of the fact that he's a restricted free agent and teams won't lock up their money going after him before they go after the "Big Fish". That being said, if the Lakers signed Whiteside, Derozan, Barnes and the rookies before Clarkson (and Nick Young vanished) they could do it if they wanted to and I believe they would! :)

This is good stuff!

I think that Batum is also a nice option to look for since Barnes is restricted. Also, I don't think the Lakers need Derozan when they can just resign Clarkson and get similar productivity plus Clarkson has a better shot. Instead of going after three "big fish." Instead of signing Derozan, Barnes and Whiteside, the Lakers could simply sign Batum and Whiteside. Then, since I'm pretty sure Hibbert is not returning, the Lakers could sign either Noah or Mozgov and sign Norris Cole. Young and Bass should be traded for late first rounders and 2nd picks, and Kelly should be waived.

In Draft night Lakers draft Simmons and Payton II.

PG: Russell/ Cole/ Huertas
SG: Clarkson/ Willaims/Payton II
SF: Batum/ Simmons/ Anthony Brown
PF: Randle/ Nance Jr./ Black
C: Whiteside/ Noah/ Upshaw

The first unit will have Russell as the playmaker, Clarkson as the main scorer, Batum and Whiteside leading the D and Randle as the overall rebounder.

The second unit would have Simmons as the playmaker, Williams as the main scorer, Nance jr. leading on offensive rebounding and Noah as the defensive anchor with a lot more energy than Hibbert. Cole can pass and score so the bench would be solid.

This is really good! I think you all are on to something! Hassan Whiteside is a player I think every real Laker fan will agree we should get. No matter what the Lakers do I think we should make Hassan Whiteside our top priority and if we get Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram we will have a good starting 5, even without other moves.

The starting lineup

D'angelo Russell
Jordan Clarkson
Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram
Julius Randle
Hassan Whiteside

Plus we will have enough cap space to go after both Durant this year and Westbrook next year if we want!

DAB! lol

I like this post a whole lot! I can tell it was very thought out. However if this did happen, I would like the Lakers to keep Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram and allow which ever 1 the Lakers got to develop with the core youngsters, so not only would they be building a championship team for today but they would also have 1 for the future.

The whole deal doesn't make sense at all but you're right about 1 thing, this post does cause for long conversation. Long conversation to tell you how horrible it is. Especially the part where you have the Lakers drafting the #1 and #2 lottery picks this year. What?! Makes no sense!
