Lakers do this so they can make a playoff push next year, and with a player who can back up Kobe helps the team stay healthy and helps Kobe stay healthy by him not needing to do so much firepower and so he doesn't have to play 35+ Min a night.
Clippers do this to get rid of the ugly contract of Spencer Hawes, and they can get another player who can contribute off the bench so next year the stars don't have to play a lot of minutes every night. And Nick Young is still in LA where he is a "fan favorite"
Timberwolves do this so they can get younger, getting rid of Kevin Martin will help accelerate Zach LaVine's development by giving him more minutes, the Timberwolves also get a stretch four in Hawes whose contract may be bad right now, but when the cap comes in when its 2017 it won't be so bad at that time, they also gain a rookie in Tarik Black who has proven to be a steal in the draft.
