Lakers trade Julius Randle, Nick Young, Jordan Hill and #34 for #6 Pick and Jason Thompson

Draft:
#2 Jahlil Okafor
#6 WCS
#27 Anderson/Hollis-Jefferson/Anthony Brown

WCS would be a perfect player next to Okafor.

Okafor would bring the low post scoring, passing and command double teams. WCS would protect the rim, rebound and be a versatile defender.

Anderson, Hollis Jefferson and Brown could slide in to the 3 and D roll. Wouldn't expect to much offense, just spread the floor by hitting open shots.

Offer Jimmy Butler a 2/3 year deal for the max. Sign a backup PG like CJ Watson. Nothing flashy but solid bench player.

I think Tarik Black can be a nice piece off the bench if he gets stronger. He'd be their defensive/rebounding specialist.

Clarkson-Watson
Bryant-Ellington-Brown
Butler-#27-Johnson
Okafor-Thompson
WCS-Black

This would put them in amazing position for the 2016 offseason. They'd have plenty of cap room and talent to find the final pieces.

They'd have:
-Depth to control kobe's minutes
-Bigs to control the tempo, forcing teams to play their style
-Balanced roster of Scorers and Defensive minded players
-Plenty of youth to develop

No floor spacing. And that trade is rubbish for lakers

Why are you so eager to get rid of Randle.

Also, the Kings wouldn't be able to do this trade due to the cap hit.

Plus this trade doesn't effect our cap that much as we don't have to sign Hill back, Randle was the 7th pick last year; so getting the 6th is very close if not more, and Nick Young is only 5 mil year guy which will be less than the cap inflation next yr.

I agree if we can dump Nick Young salary that is a plus, but not at the expense of randle.

"All signs point point to Timberwolves taking Okafor, " it's just a rumor but would be ideal for the Lakers situation.

Jordan Hill and Nick Young don't have a ton of trade value but I think if you package them with #27 and #34 you can move up in to the top 10-12 to hopefully get Stanley Johnson. He's listed at 6'7 245 which is very strong for a SG/SF. He could be difference maker on the defensive end and continue to develop an outside shot to stretch the floor around Randle/Towns.

Clarkson needs to work on his jump shot a lot this year but I like his length defensively. A core of Clarkson, Johnson, Randle and Towns would give the Lakers tons of flexibility in free agency the next two years.

My dream scenario would be to bring in Tom Thibodeau and sign a guy like Jimmy Butler, DeMarre Carroll, Jae Crowder or Draymond Green. Butler is the only flashy sign but they are all very strong defensive players. The Lakers would have the roster/coach to be one of the top defensive teams for the next 5-10 years.

Every player has the ability to contribute on offense any given night but their main focus would be to shut teams down on defense. That'll be the quickest way to get back in to contention in the West. There are too many teams that try to shoot you out of the gym. With a legit 7'0 rim protector, a long 6'5 and 6'7 back court to be physical with the top guards in the West. Randle can use his strength to be a very good team defender like Draymond Green does for the Warriors. Stanley has the tools to be an All-NBA defensive player in a few years.

A team like that would still have a lot of financial flexibility in 2016/2017 with 4 players on rookie contracts, Kobe off the books and the increase salary cap.

The Lakers have the draw of being the best basketball franchise in the nba, located in one of the biggest markets in the US and having a strong core of youth. Superstars like Durant and Westbrook would be dying to be the final piece of the puzzle. They'd be able to pick up the torch from Kobe and put a their own championship banners in the rafters of Staples

I like your think man. I'd say Draymond out of the 4 you listed. Clarkson is definitely a keeper and you mentioning Stanley Johnson let's me know you know your stuff. But it's all unlikely in my opinion but you make great points!

I don't see a lot of movement from bigger name free agents this off season (Leonard, Butler, Gasol, Jordan, Middleton, Aldridge) and the Lakers don't need to be a playoff team next year but if they can start building a strong core they'll have the foundation they need to entice a big FA in 2016/2017 when they have more money to throw around.

Two guys that fill major gaps in the Lakers roster would be Danny Green (Free Agent) and Taj Gibson (Trade). They are both hard nosed defenders, one stretches the floor with his shooting, the other protects the rim and can knock down mid-range jump shots. Bulls have a crowded front court and will be focused on retaining Butler.

Clarkson (6'4) Mudiay (6'5) Green (6'6) and Gibson (6'9 with a 7'4 wingspan) would be a very long athletic group that could become a really strong defensive unit by the end of next season.

Offense would come from Kobe, Randle, Young, Green stretching the floor.

Young, Ellington and Brown will supplement Kobe's limited minutes.

Potential Roster:

Emmanuel Mudiay - Jordan Clarkson
Kobe Bryant - Jabari Brown - Wayne Ellington
Danny Green - Nick Young
Julius Randle - Ed Davis - Ryan Kelly
Taj Gibson - Jordan Hill

They'd still have some cap room to play around with.

Their front court would be a little undersized but the length on the perimeter would be a huge advantage.

1.) I like but I think Danny Green will get bullied by higher level 3s in the NBA

(Assuming Towns/Okafor are off the table because Lakers are unlikely to land the #1 or #2 pick)

Dream scenario would be to:
1)Draft Mudiay, a long athletic guard with tons of upside to match up with the strong pgs in the Western Conference.

2) Trade their other 1st rd pick (via the Rockets), 2nd rd pick and one/two of their expiring contracts to move up in to the 10-14 range and go after Justise Winslow. A strong, athletic, defensive SF would pair up very well with the length of Clarkson and Mudiay to bolster the back court. There would also be guys like Oubre, Looney, Trey Lyles in that range of the draft, all strong pieces to fill gaps in the roster along side Randle and their #1 pick.

I don't see the Lakers being that aggressive to move up in the draft but I think it would be worth it with as many high upside prospects there are in this draft. Plus the more players they have on rookie contract the more cap room flexibility they have to build around them.

The other benefit the Lakers have is the increased Salary Cap that is coming in the 2016/2017 seasons as well as getting Kobe's contract off the books after this year so they have the ability to overpay for some strong FA this year, take the cap hit and be fine going forward.

I'd hate to see them over pay for guys like Love, Dragic, Rondo. They would appease kobe and some of the more impatient fans but would hurt the long term goal of building a young, strong and deep team that will contend for titles. It depends on what they do in the draft but the most logical Free agents to pursue would be: Greg Monroe, Draymond Green, Kris Middleton, and Tobias Harris. Guys like Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard would be amazing but seem unlikely.

There is 0% chance the Clippers let DeAndre Jordan leave, Ballmer didn't spend $2 billion on the Clippers to get cheap right before the cap increase. Dragic would require $19 mil+ a year for a 29 year old pg, Love would fit in terribly with Randle and Rondo seems to be on the downside of his career and not great for a locker room environment.I'd love to see them retaining Ed Davis.

The lakers just need to get better at building through the draft and developing a deep roster. I'd be more excited to see them bring in a strong core of young talent than overpay semi-big names players that are 27-30 years old and get bounced in the first round.

JdA

1.) Another option if the lakers are feeling aggressive would be pair up a player or pick with Julius Randle to go after Cauley-Stein.

A long athletic rim protector who could fill the DeAndre Jordan roll for the Lakers. He doesn't have quite the wingspan but he has a strong motor/agility.

Randle has potential to be a very good starter but as an undersize PF that isn't a freaky athlete, I'd rather opt for the safe bet and plug in a defensive rim protector.

2.) I doubt that Winslow and WCS are available by pick 10. Plus not sure u can trade an expiring contract on draft night, unless u mean expiring next season.

Also jordan is an unrestricted FA, so technically the clippers can't do anything about his decision but offer him money

3.) Your 2nd scenario seem to go over the cap

Everything depends on who they are able to snag in the draft but after the win over the 76ers last week it's looking like Mudiay (6'5) or Russell (6'5) as oppose to the two Bigs. They would still be great options along side Clarkson (6'4) to create a long athletic back court.

The lakers have two more games against the T-wolves and one against the 76ers which have to be losses.

It doesn't seem logical to go after Kevin Love in free agency unless you move Randle, there would be zero rim protection and they would get pounded inside by most teams in the west.

Monroe would be a nice piece to add in free agency, he doesn't quite solve the defensive issues but he has more length to offer at the rim. From a value standpoint it's tough to find a 24 year old that is putting up 16 and 10 a game.

The ideal off-season moves would be to draft Towns, Sign a solid SF like Draymond Green, Kris Middleton or Wilson Chandler and retain Ed Davis + Jordan Hill. They'd have a very strong front court that would be around for a long time and they could retain some of the younger guards like Brown, Ellington and Clarkson. Plus they have the Rockets #1 pick to gamble on a high upside guy.

They have to avoid being enticed by older PG like Dragic who'd they have to pay $19 mil a year or Rondo. The Lakers aren't in a win now situation so guys like that only stunt their ability to rebuild.

1.) We've the same coordinates in thought

2.) Someone like deandre jordan and someone like kris Middleton could probably be gotten if we don't bring back hill and tweak some other stuff, plus u bring in mudiay/ russell to go with kobe and Randle, with Clarkson, davis, possibly young, etc off the bench. Seems pretty reasonable if you ask me

3.) I hope we are able to keep our pick but I'm okay with tanking another year if we have to.

Thoughts on draft strategy?

The two options seem to draft the highest talent availble regardless or current roster construction or to slightly reach for guys who make more sense with their current line up and try to build a well rounded young team.

Value wise Mudiay and Russell make the most sense but plugging them in alongside Clarkson, Kobe, Young (potentially ellington/brown/Price) might limit their minutes that will be vital for development. Especially if they sign Rondo or Dragic in the off season, which I pray they don't.

Then you look at guys like Cauley-Stien and Justice Winslow who are still very talented players, plus they plug right in to big gaps the lakers currently have in their lineup.

-Cauley-Stien would be a perfect fit next to an undersize, more offensive minded Randle. His rim protection and versatility on the defensive could be a huge boost to the lakers lineup.

-Winslow would be the best SF the lakers have had in years. He's big, strong, athletic and a great defender. He'll his motor will lead to getting turnovers and much needed rebounds from the 3 spot.

Cauley-Stien and a guy like Rondae Hollis-Jefferson with their second 1st round pick would give them a strong young core and freedom to go any direction in free agency but they aren't guys with the highest ceilings.

Signing Love wouldn't be my first choice but if they did I'd love to see them package randle and one/two of their picks to move in to the top 10 of the draft.

If they went that route a dream lineup would be:

Clarkson
Kobe
Winslow
Love
WCS

They'd still be able to add a mid-level guy in free agency. (Middleton, Carroll, Harris), or get more ambitious with the cap increases looming and jump on a guy like Jimmy Butler, Danny Green or Draymond Green. The Lakers would take a cap hit next year but safe after that. Building a team of hard nosed defenders is going to be the quickest way to build a playoff contender in the western conference.

The lakers can't afford to be passive this off season and based off of everything Mitch Kupchak/Byron Scott have been saying it sounds like they are looking to make a splash this off season

Knicks give up a 2nd round pick and receive Nick Young + 27th pick in the first round?

That would be a really interesting lineup if they could add one more piece to slide in to the SF position.

Or package Hill, Young and #27 to move up in the draft to go after another strong roll player.

0% chance this would ever happen.

No chance Kings give up Cousins for a draft pick, hill and young.

They'd need to throw in Randle to get the deal done. Cousins is a very rare talent that most teams would die to get.

The Kings could easily acquire equal or better talent than Hill/Young in Free Agency without giving up their franchise center.

or they could just package use their #6 pick to move up in to the top 4 if there was a player they really loved.

The Lakers could get WAY more value for that pick. Lawson is an underrated starting Pg in the nba and might be an interesting combo guard to trade for it they got lucky with Towns/Okafor in the draft but definitely not worth that pick. In their current situation Mudiay and Russell are well worth the gamble over a 27 year old who's hit his ceiling.
