Lakers offseason: $65 mil
Lakers/ Suns
Lakers trade: Clarkson (S&T) and #2 pick
Suns trade: Devin Booker

Sign Harrison Barnes to a max contract ($44 mil)
Sign Whiteside to a max contract ($23 mil)
Sign Ryan Anderson 4 year/ $80 mil ($3 mil)
Resign Huertas 2 year/ $6 mil
PG: Russell/ Huertas
SG: Booker/ Williams
SF: Barnes/ Nance
PF: Anderson/ Randle
C: Whiteside/ Black

This will be Russell's team. A pick and roll of Russell/ Whiteside with snipers behind the arc will be deadly. Thoughts?

Our second overall pick isn't worth booker, and nance isn't a small forward

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like lakers have actually been lucky that they haven't signed a top free agent the past few years. The only players the lakers have really missed out on are Love and Aldridge!
Why I say this?

- Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard were both RFA so they had no chance of acquiring them
- Dwight Howard has been garbage since he left Orlando
- Camelo is having knee problems and is already on the decline in the first year of his contract
- By not signing any key free agents, we have 3 young players with all having a potential to be very good players in Russell, Randle, and Clarkson (can make it 4 with Ingram/ Simmons)

So instead of having max money on one or two of the players listed, we will have about $60 million in cap space to sign 2 max contracts and the possibility of trading our young players for another superstar.

It would have been nice to have Butler or Leonard. Record would be better. The only way it works out is if we get every need during free agency.

If lakers get #1 and Sixers #2
Lakers trade: #1 pick
Sixers trade: #2 pick and Embiid

Its a high risk high reward for lakers.

where's there risk?

Lakers/ Suns

Lakers trade: Julius Randle and 2nd round pick (32nd)
Suns trade: Devin Booker and TJ Warren

- Lakers need to build the team around Russell and surround him with shooters

Draft Ingram
Sign Whiteside to a max contract
Sign Ryan Anderson for $48 mil over 4 years
PG: Russell - Clarkson
SG: Booker - Williams
SF: Ingram - TJ Warren
PF- Anderson - Nance
C- Whiteside - Black or FA

Could you imagine a Russell/ Whiteside pick and roll while having snipers spacing out the floor.

The mode of building a team in such a way is not a bad idea at all but I think most people would disagree with the personnel you've chosen.

Phoenix is really high on Booker and are unlikely to give him up sadly though he would definitely fit perfectly next to Russell. Someone like Booker? I don't know who that is.

Anderson isn't a two-way player and wouldn't move the needle in regards to becoming a playoff or championship caliber team.

Whiteside is obviously a great defender but he isn't a big time low post scoring threat though I guess it could be developed. I don't like the idea of Whiteside negatively influencing our young guys especially since he can't completely act right with a team full of veterans.

wait, Randle and Clarkson for Booker. you're kidding right?

2.) 14 Mar 2016 04:17:12
Brandon Ingram and Jordan Clarkson for Booker Clarkson is better than booker in my opinion and add in another player better than booker this dude is insane

3.) 14 Mar 2016 07:13:29
Clarkson and Randle are a better fit than Booker. Lakers can always sign a shooting guard. I also think that giving Ryan Anderson $20M a year is crazy. Can spend that money in other places.

With recent news about us trading for Whiteside, the question is what do we give up?

I wouldn't trade Russell clarkson Randle or nance since we can just get Whiteside in free agency, but I find it hard to believe Miami would accept young, Lou, Hibbert.

Lakers0795

1.) 27 Jan 2016 20:23:36
I hate websites like those, unless cbs ESPN yahoo or the major sources report it I don't believe stuff like yibiada. But I would love to have whiteside.

2.) 28 Jan 2016 00:28:29
I think Miami have quite a few injuries right now, so they could use him to trade for a bit of depth, and I believe that they don't believe they can keep hold of him in FA. They might take bass and young/ Lou if we take a larger contract from them but I think Lakers can just get him in FA anyways.

3.) 28 Jan 2016 02:51:06
The deal has Whiteside & Luol Deng going to the Lakers for Lou Williams & Nick Young.

4.) 28 Jan 2016 05:50:31
Citydude- honestly those are the two players who I think are a) needed and b) a good fit for the lakers to sign in the offseason. Deng can sign on a short team deal similar to bass to hopefully mentor Ingram/ Simmons and the rest of the young players and Whiteside is the centre we need and hopefully we could show him what he could build around the other young players. Don't like giving up Lou though tbh. Don't think a trade would go down, but either way, I still think we should go for those two players in FA anyways

5.) 28 Jan 2016 08:15:00
Yeah I agree they would be upgrades to the roster on the defensive side. Wouldn't have that consistent scorer in Williams which will be a problem this season at least but Deng would provide some kind of scoring help if this deal happened.

6.) 28 Jan 2016 19:23:33
I love whiteside but people say he is a defensive monster but Heat are better without him on defense. I would love to have him but I want a defensive minded center next to Randle like ezeli or Noah

7.) 29 Jan 2016 03:22:20
TheKing your saying you want a defensive minded center next to Randle. Let me give you some of Whiteside's numbers. 33 games with 2+ blocks, 2 games of 10 blocks, 2 triple doubles, 27 games of 10+ rebounds, & on top of that 10 games with 19+ points. So he is a defensive minded player and far more superior to Ezeli or Noah defensively.

8.) 29 Jan 2016 05:23:57
Blocks and rebounds aren't everything to defense. The heat defensive rating is better without white wide than with him. Instead of being a good defender he tries for blocks and rebound more than he does about his man

9.) 29 Jan 2016 15:23:32
I don't put to much into defensive ratings. When Whiteside is on the floor he is going up against the starters. So I would expect the opponent's starters to score more and play at there very best at the beginning when he is in than when he is out. When Whiteside is out then the starters sit as well. Defensive side becomes better when top talent is on the bench.

10.) 30 Jan 2016 08:05:35
Lakers don't have assets to land Whiteside and even if they did, I'm not a big fan of trading for free agents especially if there's no guarantee they will re-sign.

Yea but you're also risking another team trading for him or even him just signing with another team, plus the package is mainly to get Winslow

Barnes is a role player on the Warriors! He can easily be a go to guy with us. With an increased role I can easily see him averaging 20-23 points and 5-7 rebounds while also being able to defend very well. I mean James Harden was a role player with OKC and look at him now.

So we get Cousins, Rose and Whiteside for Hibbert, Williams, Bass and Young? Seems pretty realistic to me. SMH

Lakers will happily take Ingram rather than give up Russell as he is a better fit for our team anyway.

What can you get for that #3 pick though? For the same reason you stated, teams aren't going to trade valuable assets for it. I'm willing to take a chance on Brown to fill the huge hole we have at SF and hope he develops into a decent starter. Now if we can somehow convince Sacramento to accept a package of the #3, clarkson and Randle for cousins I'm all for it!

At #3 I'll take Jaylen Brown out of Cal. He has the potential to be an all around player (Kawhi Leonard)

I've always liked him and still do. Personally I don't think any of the blame should be on him! He pulled off a CP3 trade not his fault it got vetoed and later a Dwight Howard trade (all lakers fans were extremely excited about it) not his fault Dwight turned out to be trash with us and left

And if Whiteside doesn't come, we need to hopefully land Simmons, trade Randle and clarkson for okafor, and sign derozan or Harrison Barnes and Nicolas batum
Russell
Barnes/Derozan
Batum
Simmons
Okafor
