Lakers next 12 months from an outsider's perspective:
Sit at #2 and take Ingram or Simmons. The Sixers are going to try to bait you into loving Simmons and moving up for him. Don't take the bait. Just wait for one or the other.
Do not trade Russell, sign Clarkson, keep Randle.
Try to find a competent big man via FA to fill the whole at Center. Do not over spend. You're going to need that cap space next off season.
Eject Swaggy P from the team. Trade him for whatever you can get, including an under achieving big man that needs a shot or a big man at the end of a contract. If necessary, stretch his contract and release him. He can't be near the young guys any longer.
Embrace the tank. Try to keep your pick next year, get a top 3 pick again. This will wipe out the 1st round obligation to the Magic and turn it into 2 second rounders.
Do not get tempted by P. George or any other star you think you can get. That's for next year after the draft. At that point use ALL of your cap space to fill the gaps and move full steam ahead.

Sixers trade Lakers protected pick, Miami pick, Rashad Holmes to Suns
Suns trade Brandon Knight to Sixers
Why? Sixers need a scoring guard to go with their young big guys and young small forwards (Saric and Simmons/ Ingram) . Back court production is their biggest problem.
The Suns stink and need a fresh start. They get back fair value for Knight, who they acquired using the Lakers protected pick, Tyler Ennis (who averaged 3ppg) and Miles Plumlee (who was scoring about 4ppg)

The problem is Knight has a big contract attached to him so for the Sixers even to consider doing a deal like this they have to get the feel if Knight would even want to come to the Sixers. Even though your right they need a scoring guard Ish Smith has doing a great job at that right now plus the Sixers are in a rebuilding mode so when adding a veteran like Knight you have to wonder does he even want to come.

Sixers can do better than Knight. They can easily take a guard in this draft (Kris Dunn or Murray?) or package Noel and a pick for a guard. They have tons of options.

Sixers get Clarkson and Randal
Lakers get their own 1st round pick back, the Kings 1st round pick currently owned by the Sixers, and Okafor.

If the Lakers wanted Okafor they would have selected him with the second pick. Makes no sense to trade Clarkson and Randle basically just to acquire Okafor when it could have been done back in June.
