With the roster the Lakers have, it will not even get them the other seed on the west. If they want to at least try and get in the playoffs they need to make a few moves. Here's what they should do

1) Lal-GS

Lakers get: SF Harrison Barnes

Warriors get: 2015 1st rnd pick unprotected via Hou, PG Steve Nash

warriors already have a great starting lineup and a capable stretch forward in green. They get a 1st rnd pick they can use to target another young player or use as trade bait. They also can use the stretch provision on Nash so they don't have to pay him all his money at once, plus his deal expires after this year.

Lakers get a small forward they needed. Barnes can show what he is capable of now that he can have a starting role and have mentor like Bryant

2)Sign PG Eric Bledsoe to the max. Phoenix won't match it since they already have 2 capable point guards and can use that money towards another need. Lakers get the pg they truly need in this league. Lin is a good backup guard but not for a starter on a team that wants to win.

3) Lal-Ind

Lakers get: C Roy Hibbert

Pacers get: C Jordan Hill, 2 future 2nd rnd picks

pacers are in rebuild mode with George out. They trade hibbert after a bad post season and get hill who can show if he is worth keeping around once the pacers contend again. If not he has a team option and they can release him after the season.

The Lakers need a center bad ever since Howard left to houston. Yes we all know Hibbert had a bad post season. But before that he was a top 5 center the last 3 years and was a defensive machine. The Lakers are taking a gamble but in a win now mode sometimes u have to roll the dice. If it doesn't work out after the season, I'm sure they can trade hibbert to someone as he will be on his last year and someone could use the cap relief

2014-2015 LA Lakers

PG: Eric Bledsoe

SG: Kobe Bryant

SF: Harrison Barnes

PF: Julius Randle

C: Roy Hibbert

6th man: G/F Nick Young

perfect blend for the team. True veterans that now how to win, young electrifying players and depth. This is a team that can make it in the west

1.) I don't see gsw sending barnes over for nash, who has one year left and has a hefty contract and a 1st round pick that probs won't break the lottery. I say we send back lin to his first nba team. he won't be of direct use if bledsoe falls out. Then in 2016 we can sign a superstar when kobe retires. maybe a kyrie type player if he's unhappy in cleveland or something. I think maybe demar derozan in 2017. if we sign him, bringing back an LA native as well as bringing back a person who should already be - by that time - an established all star. but I don't think the pacers will take what were giving them. maybe sending over another piece like Ryan Kelly or some pick we have.

It's been reported today that the Lakers have offered Carmelo Anthony a max contract. Even if Anthony signs they are going to need to put a team around them so they can compete in the loaded west. These are moves they need to do

Players under contract

Kobe, Nash, Randle, Sacre, Marshall

Salary: about $37m

first need to make a few trades

need to dump off Nash and possibly Marshall to a rebuilding team and give them a future 2nd end pick or two for cash

Team that fits the bill is Orlando Magic

Orl-Lal

Magic get: PG Steve Nash, 2 future 2nd end picks

Lakers get: cash considerations (doesn't matter maybe $1 or $2m)

Lakers get rid of Nash's awful contract for cap space. In a sense even though orlando doesn't need Nash he would be good or help the point guard they just drafted develop into a great point guard for the future. I don't think u can get a better mentor

Lakers salary now: about $25m

Lakers can now bring in some talent around Anthony and Bryant

free agency

Lakers sign C Greg Monroe to a max contract (13m annually)

Lakers sign SF Carmelo Anthony to a max contract ($21m annually plus increases)

Now Lakers are at about $59m. They can sign one player to a $6m annual deal before they get to their mid level exception I believe. The position they need to adress is point guard

Sign PG Isiah Thomas to a 4 year deal worth $24m

I know the Pistons offered him the same over 3 years but I'm pretty sure Thomas would want to play with the Lakers if they have this good of a team in the making. And with Collison signing with Sacramento I don't think they will worry abt signing Thomas back

Lakers then use their mid level exception on G/F Evan Turner over 3 years. They need a 6th man and can be a good backup for kobe and Anthony.

sign Henry, Hill, chalmers, and also Andrew Bynum. It may be a risk but at the minimum he can prove his value again with his former team when he was at one point a top two center in the league

2014-2015 Los Angeles Lakers

PG: Isiah Thomas
SG: Kobe Bryant
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Julius Randle
C: Greg Monroe

6th: G/F Evan Turner
7th: G Mario Chalmers
8th: C Andrew Bynum
9th: F Xavier Henry
10th: F Wesley Johnson
11th: G Kendall Marshall
12th: Robert Sacre

this is a team that can make a deep push in the loaded western conference. On top of having two of the best scorers in the league with Carmelo and Kobe, they have great youth players who can contribute in Monroe, Randle and Thomas who will bring athleticism with kobe and Anthony up there in age. They have a good bench that can take key minutes for the starters and still produce. If the Lakers can find the right coach to put it all together for these guys Anthony can get his 1st ring and kobe can get his 6th

on a side note the only thing I was sceptical abt all of this was chalmers on a vets minimum but I didn't think any team including the heat would give him more after his finals performance

1.) Lmfao this is wayyy over the salary cap, and still built poorly. Turner/ Thomas are both overpaid and not winning type players. Both are poor defensively ad well as bad per.

2.) Only thing wrong with this is you want to replace evan turner with nick young and mario chalmers with kent bazemore

3.) You're not considering kobe's contract. you said after we sign monroe and anthony we have 59 m left on the salary cap. after signing anthony on a 22. 5 max we have exactly.1 million left in our salary cap. I like the idea and enthusiasm, but keep dreaming
